Bronze medal horse for a trainer on a budget!!

Are you a young aspiring trainer on a budget looking to get your bronze medal, but can’t afford a big price tag horse to get you there? Are you a knowledgeable rider looking for your next horse and want something you can bond and work with on the ground in order to create that partnership under saddle? If so, keep reading:

Davinci, a 2008 15.1h Azteca gelding, is a compact and athletic package who is a solid second level horse with many aspects of third level coming along. He has a straightforward walk trot canter, leg yield, half pass, and counter canter. He does have a flying change, but it’s not something that we’ve been focusing on developing at the moment. Davinci is great for the farrier, vet, and is easy to take off farm for shows or clinics. We feel he is best suited for a new/young trainer on a budget or an ambitious young rider who also wants a horse to bring along. Under the right rider, Davinci could help his next partner achieve their USDF bronze medal seeing as his flying change can be clean and reliable when schooled (you will need to put some time in to freshen these up).

What about the price? The reason for Davinci’s very reasonable price tag is that he displays some past traumas from his early life, and while he’s dependable to ride, some of his flinching and tense behavior on the ground can make some people nervous. Despite working closely with a vet to rule out ulcers, discomfort, and lameness, Davinci still has a tendency to get tense and flinchy while being saddled and holds that tension until the rider mounts. Once mounted, he becomes the calm horse he is on the ground when not tacked. He has very respectful ground manners, but he is an overachiever and leans towards being on edge in order to instantly please his handler, occasionally overreacting, versus being relaxed and a little lazy. Under saddle, he is not spooky or reactive, but if something does make him tense he will scoot forward and needs a rider who can laugh that off, keep riding, and go about their business not holding that against him.

What about the PPE you ask? We have no concerns with him going into a vetting. He flexes well, jogs out well, and has no underlying medical conditions. In April, after he had been in full training for a couple of months, he was feeling a little sluggish behind so we did his first ever joint injections on April 11th, injecting his hocks and stifles. Now he feels like a spring chicken! Prior to this he has never had any joint maintenance or treatment. His riding video posted in March is before his injections as well, so he’s that much more fluid in his movement now!

Before listing him in March we did take films of his hocks and hind fetlocks (he’s a little wind puffy in the hind fetlocks) and he looked great on both. Those are the only rads taken on this horse in the past several years. We also pulled blood and checked for any metabolic issues (because he’s Spanish and a rounder build) as well as Lyme (we are in New England) and all checked out normal.

Ideally Davinci’s next home will be his final one. We’d love for his next owner to reach their goals with him and later on, after learning his quirks and loving him for who he is, be able to share his knowledge and experience with a working student so they can also learn from him. Davinci can really be the pay-it-forward type for those dedicated to learning.

Fidi - SOLD

Fidi - SOLD

Breed: Oldenburg
Age: 2005
Grand Prix Schoolmaster!

Fidi (Florencio I x Hill Hawk x Aktuell) is a 17 year old Oldenburg gelding 16.2h with scores in the US from PSG through GP. Imported from Germany in November 2018, Fidi has a wonderful character and enjoys bonding with his rider. He loves his passage and has great one tempis, but struggles in competition with his piaffe, so he could show someone the ropes of the GP, but is happiest as a small tour horse. He is best suited for a junior/young rider, professional, or knowledgeable and ambitious amateur. Fidi takes his job very seriously and does not have a sense of humor for beginners or for a niece and nephew who want to go for a pony ride. That being said, he takes pride in working hard for his rider and likes having a job and purpose. When Fidi was imported in 2018 his vetting wasn’t spectacular in regards to flexions and lunging on tight circles, so please be aware that even with great care and maintenance he will be no spring chicken in a vetting! In 2021 he competed in the GP Open division in Region 8 and went to Region 8 Regionals at Grand Prix, but had a splint removed this past April so he is just getting back to full work. Videos posted are of his September 2021 GP ride at Regionals as well as a schooling video at home in July 2022. Fidi is a very easy boy to have in the barn, has superb ground manners, self loads in the trailer, and is a true gentleman to work with. He deserves the very best, so come and meet this special guy for yourself.

Roosevelt (Theo) - SOLD

Roosevelt (Theo) - SOLD

Breed: KWPN
Age: May 4, 2021
Lord Leatherdale x Trento-B x Zortin

Theo is a beautiful bay colt sired by Lord Leatherdale out of a Trento-B mare. Bred to be an FEI dressage horse, Theo has the bloodlines, disposition, and conformation to be your next upper level mount. This young colt has great ground manners, round pens weekly, is UTD on vaccines, and is on a regular trim schedule with our farrier. He currently stands at 15.2 1/2h at the withers and 15.3h at his rump. Theo is a very confident youngster who is curious, bold, intelligent, and athletic. He is a very quick learner and is fun to work in the round pen due to his desire to please. Theo is registered with KWPN and has a lifetime membership with USEF. His dam was a competitive FEI horse with an incredible hind leg and ability to sit with a spectacular piaffe/passage.

Ariella - SOLD

Ariella - SOLD

Breed: ster KWPN broodmare
Age: 2005
Trento-B x Zortin x Marinier

Ariella is a beautiful 16.3h big bodied dutch ster mare sired by Trento-B who is by Krack C. Ari was a competitive riding horse the majority of her career and competed through Prix St. George and has a spectacular piaffe/passage. Before being retired as a competition horse in 2017, Ari was being prepared for her Grand Prix debut though her soundness held her back. With her extensive time as a show horse Ari is wonderful to handle, travels very well, and could not be better with the vet and farrier. Ari is being rehomed as a broodmare and would add a good amount of bone, energy, and a stellar hind leg to her offspring.

Ari had three babies in the last three years and we decided to get out of breeding after our 2021 foal so consequently she has had a year off without being bred. We put her back under saddle in November 2021 in hopes that she could be our wonderful schoolmaster with some good veterinary maintenance, but she is not staying sound enough with joint injections to justify the cost of keeping her. Ari gets along with all of the horses in the barn, is fine being stabled or living out, is very laid back, and is a super easy keeper. Her past three breedings she took the first time on frozen from two different stallions. Ari also had two foals as a young horse before her riding career.

Krack C was Anky van Grunsven’s esteemed dressage partner who is one of the most respected sires of dressage excellence in Europe. Krack C sired 10 licensed sons with the KWPN society including Trento-B who was ridden by Dutch rider Kim Leduc as a young horse and competed through Grand Prix in the Netherlands. Trento B, at 16.3 1/2h, sired successful international Grand Prix offspring such as Ambience (Roland Tong), Briolinca (Gareth Hughes) and the recently deceased international small tour horse Aesthete (Silva Martin). Trento-B passed the KWPN performance test with 8 for gaits and an 8.5 for his talent as a dressage horse.

Ari’s dam’s sire, Zortin, is a 16.3h KWPN stallion who competed in the Grand Prix show jumping ring in the Netherlands. Zortin is considered a versatile stallion who’s prodigy is successful in the highest levels of both dressage and show jumping. Zortin’s sire, Marinier, was also very versatile and competed in both disciplines as well.

Ari would be an asset to any breeding program whether you’re looking for your next upper level dressage mount or would like to add some bone into your jumper mount. Ari deserves the best home possible, so serious inquiries only please.
